Conscious Cat Sunday: Summer memories

Buckley's Story: Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher by Ingrid King

Then followed that beautiful season – summer. Filled was the air with a dreamy and
magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

How is it possible that it’s Labor Day weekend and summer is officially coming to an end? Even though we have warm and beautiful weather in my part of the world until well into October, there’s just something about Labor Day weekend that marks a passage. Temperatures may still be summery, but the quality of the light, and the feel of the air, are starting to subtly change and take on a hint of fall.

Summer is my favorite season, and I’m always a little sad to see it end. It’s been a great summer. Even though I didn’t go away at all this year, I still savored each and every day and made plenty of memories to get me through the cold, dark days of winter. Time spent with friends, eating at my favorite outdoor restaurants, long walks, afternoons on my sunny deck reading, and, of course, hanging out with Allegra and Ruby, who are also summer girls. Even on the hottest days, they loved hanging out in the sun puddles and refused to let me close the blinds to conserve some energy.

One of my favorite summer memories from this year was going to see Rock of Ages at the National Theater in Washington, DC. It turned into one of those perfect evenings: a leisurely dinner with a dear friend at a wonderful outdoor restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue, followed by the best Broadway play I’ve ever seen. I have never had so much fun at a show. It was like going to a rock concert, only better. If you get a chance to see this show, whether on tour or on Broadway, don’t miss it.

What are some of your favorite summer memories?

I’m with you. All though the cooler weather will be a relief, I do love summer. My favorite this year was taking my dog to this wildlife area where they could run free and sniff stuff to their hearts’ content.

Summer here in the desert is always a little rough, with 6 weeks or so of temps around 110…but we’re sliding into a few glorious months of cooler temps until the January rains. It’s been in the 80’s in the mornings, I can tell Fall is on it’s way–the Horde is spending almost all day on the Catio now.

This summer whizzed by faster than ever and my soul found it necessary to take frequent “stop and smell the flowers” moments. The cats, like Odin helped me stay in touch with nature. While we’re all summer lovers, I look forward to Odin’s first autumn with us. Falling leaves, here we come.

You’ll have to get some video of Odin chasing falling leaves, Layla!

We were shooting videos of him and the others today. I’ve been slow to transition to video but it’s coming 🙂

We have plenty more summer temperature left here in Florida, but I definitely noticed a little difference in the air this morning. Fall is coming!

It’s always interesting to me how there is a subtle change of seasons even in a climate such as yours, Dorian.

I’m with you. I can’t believe summer is coming to an end. It seems like it just got started, but then again we have had a lot of hot and dry days. I enjoy the cool nights of fall but summer is the best time of year for me. Hope you have a great holiday weekend.
