Mews and Nips: Meet Nacho, Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay’s Cat

You may have seen the gorgeous Maine Coon on CBS Sunday Morning last week. Reportedly, the orange tabby kitten crossed celebrity chef Bobby Flay’s path while he was looking for space for his New York City restaurant, which he named Gato. Nacho now has his own sizeable following on Instagram, although it’s doubtful that Flay himself is posting to the account, given how busy he is. According to the CBS segment, Flay has a long history of loving cats. Click here for more about Nacho.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Sunday, we shared why spring cleaning is good for your mental health, on Monday, we told you what to expect if your cat needs to be hospitalized, on Tuesday, Dr. Kris answered your questions as part of our Ask the Vet segment, on Wednesday, we told you about a study that finally debunks the myth that cats pose a risk to mental health, and on Friday, we reviewed The Comeback Cat. And don’t forget to enter our two active giveaways: a pair of Laurel Burch earrings and a necklace from MyThreeCats.com, and our 8th anniversary giveaway!

I thought you’d enjoy a little more Nacho – today’s video is featuring him “helping” his dad create, well, nachos. I love how Flay even makes Nacho his own special version at the end!

Have a great weekend!

Love Bobby. Sorry he lost Taco. You can see how he loves Nacho. What a beautiful, and happy kitty he is. Love to watch Bobby with his big boy.

Nacho is a gorgeous purebred Maine Coon. I’ve been following Mr. Flay and Nacho for longer than he’s had that cat – Taco Cat was his also (unfortunately, he did not get custody, his ex has Taco). What I didn’t know was just how far back his love of cats went until I saw this clip. While my husband and I are “adopt don’t shop” kind of people, Maine Coons are the exception and we hope one day to have one. I’ve been fan stalking the breeder’s web site where Flay got his two cats from ever since!

There are also Maine Coon rescue groups, Laurie, you might be able to find a beautiful Maine Coon who needs a home from one of them!

I follow many of those also 😀 Good reminder for everyone that sometimes purebred cat do show up in the shelter system due to one reason or another. We nearly adopted a purebred Ragdoll rescue once (papers and all) so I know they are out there.

Never knew that Bobby Flay had a cat! That just moved him up a notch. Used to love him but not after learning about how he wasn’t particularly a gentleman in his recent divorce.

I had to look twice. I thought that was a picture of my girl Madame Pele. He looks just like her.
