Review: Cat Fountain by Wet Whiskers Fountains

Wet-Whiskers-Fountains

Fountains are a great way to encourage cats to drink more water. Water is critical to keeping your cat healthy. Even though cats get moisture from a raw or canned diet, they should still have plenty of fresh water available at all times. Cats as a species don’t have a high thirst drive, and this can lead to chronic low-level dehydration if a cat is fed mostly dry food, which in turn, can lead to urinary tract and kidney problems.

And what could be better than something that is not just good for your cats, but also adds beauty to your home? The fountains from Wet Whiskers Fountains are not just functional, they’re small works of art.

Handcrafted from non-toxic, food safe materials

Handcrafted in California by Mike Miller, these fountains are one of a kind pieces made from the finest quality stoneware grade clay. Mike uses food safe glazes that are non toxic and will not fade in color. He does not use plastic filters or any form of recycled plastics, or heavy metal tubing or pipes. Every fountain includes an activated carbon satchel as an additive to remove odors, harmful bacteria, heavy metal tastes and other contaminates that occur naturally in tap water.

Mike made his first fountain for his cat Arya to help her with a health problem. After seeing positive results, he began to make these fountains for family and friends as well. Wet Whiskers Fountain is a family business. Wife Denise handles marketing, shipping, and customer communications, and contributes to the design of the fountains. Arya is the Chief Fountain Approval Officer and purrsonally inspects every fountain before it is shipped to a customer.

Our review

Mike and Denise sent me a gorgeous fountain in a beautiful soft pink color. The fountain is super easy to assemble. I think it took me longer to unpack the lovingly and carefully packed fountain than it took me to actually set it up. It is super quiet – you can’t even hear the pump running, all you hear is a very gentle trickle of water. One design touch that I think is absolutely lovely is a small ceramic heart that is placed over the section of cord that runs from the pump underneath the center piece to the outside of the fountain. The little heart completely covers the cord and it looks so pretty!

Prior to reviewing this fountain, I did not have a fountain for the girls, so this was something new for them. Ruby was the first one to check it out:

I think she was a little started when she realized there was water in it!

Allegra approved as soon as she realized what it was, and took a quick drink of water:

I love everything about this fountain. It’s gorgeous. It’s quiet. It’s very easy to clean. The materials are selected with care and at the risk of sounding a little woo woo, I honestly felt the love and positive energy that went into this fountain. I love this new addition to my living space, and I love knowing that it’s good for Allegra and Ruby’s health.

I’m so happy you featured these Ingrid. I just ordered a beautiful antiqued teal one since I am trying to encourage Bella to drink more water. It will have pride of place on my buffet, where she has started hanging out. Mike and Denise sound like such lovely people and I’m sure the love and care they put into these fountains will be just as healing as the water for our little friends.

My kitties both love their Wet Whiskers fountain… It really encourages them to drink more as they go to it just to play and end up drinking while there!

These are beautiful. I’ve been considering a fountain for my 4 but hubby won’t let me leave anything plugged in and running when we’re not home. Do you leave this running 24/7? Is it ok to leave it unplugged for several hours a day? My crew would definitely be interested in chewing the cord so i’d have to get a cover for that.

These fountains are absolutely safe, but if you know you have circumstances that would nessevitate unplugging it, You certainly can leave it unplugged. You should run it at least 12 hours everyday. Easy to clean when needed. You can see our helpful videos on setting up and cleaning and other tips on our YouTube channel: Wet Whiskers Fountains.
Cord covers can be found in you hardware and electronic stores. There is a good variety so you can choose what you like best.

Ingrid, these are very lovely, albeit a little pricey. I do have a fountain for my kitties and they LOVE it!! With 12 kitties, I have to add water frequently, as well as cleaning it. They do like to drink from the fountain — a lot!! ♥♥♥

I love the color of the one featured here.Very pretty designs.

I did have a concern about the cats possibly chewing on the cord. I guess it depends on the cat!

Good comment! Some cats are chewers! There is a product you can purchase at electronic stores that wraps around the cord, it does discourage chewing,
Some have even purchased a section of PVC pipe to insert the electrical cord through.

I got my first fountain several years ago when Sierra got sick with a urinary tract infection. I started with a plastic one, but they were very hard to clean, the stains & mineral deposits wouldn’t come off, So I started using ceramic type of fountains, they are much easier to clean, I have three of them around the house so my cats can easily get a drink, they all love them, I did have to place mats under them since Lone Wolf likes to dip his paws in the water. but they are a huge success.

Wow! I plan to buy one. However, my boys would be chewing on that exposed cord. You have good girls! LOL.

Cleaning is so simple! No more than 5-10 minutes in the sink. Please visit our YouTube Channel, Wet Whiskers Fountains and look for a video called “It’s Time to Clean Your Fountain’. This video walks you through the simple steps of cleaning and setting it up again.

Your new fountain looks great! Carmine loves to drink from the top part of our current fountain, and it’s really cute to watch. I really love the purple fountain pictured in this post as well – they make some really gorgeous products.
