Mews and Nips: Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence adopts a tortie, and more
I enjoy following writer Jon Katz’s blog Bedlam Farm. He chronicles his life on a farm with dogs, barn cats, donkeys and chickens, as well as his personal journey from depression to a fully realized life. When I came across the photo above, which headed a post titled “Afternoon Meeting Topic: Humans are Dumb,” I just had to share it with you. The photo shows barn cat Minnie, along with Strut the rooster and one of his hens. The three seem to agree that animals are most definitely smarter than humans. “One day, says Minnie, when I come into money, I’ll build a no-argument, no-kill shelter for these people and let them live out their days in peace. All this worrying about money, Facebook, e-mails and chopping up wood – it’s just going to kill them.” Read the full post on BedlamFarm.com.
The news that Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence adopted a tortie made me smile. The actress was asked about her new family member on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and Ellen educated her about the fact that torties are usually female and encouarged her to adopt a companion for the adorable little kitten. Watch the full video segment on Ellentv.com. I wonder whether we’ll see the little tortie in the second Hunger Games movie?
If you missed any of the stories featured on The Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: On Monday, we explained why natural doesn’t always mean healthy when it comes to cat food, Tuesday we let you know how your cat could be a star in a video contest hosted by three top feline behaviorists, and on Wednesday we featured artist Gary Patterson. And don’t forget to enter our giveaways for a cat art print by Michelle Wolff, and our anniversary giveaway for a $50 Visa gift card featuring Allegra and Ruby!
The cat in today’s video really wants the door opened, and I guess he figures that knocking may be a more effective way to get his human’s attention!
Have a great weekend!

I love my petite Tortie girl (and she holds her own with her huge maine coon mix brothers) Torties are the best! (just don’t tell my boys I said that)
Our lips are sealed, Raine!
Oh darn!!!!! Until I read this post I really didn’t care for Jennifer Lawrence much…..now I am going to have to change my mind
I missed Ellen when this aired….thanks for letting us know!
I confess that I actually didn’t know who Jennifer Lawrence was until I came across this little bit of news, Caren. I didn’t finish the first Hunger Games book, so I had no desire to see the movie.
I knew I liked Jennifer Lawrence….and now I know why.
Good for her
There you go, Toni!
That’s a neat technique to have the humans open the door. Repeated meowing works well too =^.^=
Purrs
I’m sure you have all kinds of ways to get your humans to do your bidding, Texas.
What cute pictures….. Love them.
Have a great day.
hugs, Bugsy and Knuckles
I’m glad you enjoy the pictures!
We LOVED your story on “natural” (*cough*) cat food. And that’s one of our FAVE videos too!

The one that tripped at the oscars I have mixed feelings about celebs talking about their pets it does bring out an awareness but then too many people go get an animal not realizing the responsibility.
