Mews and Nips: Downward Facing Cat, dental health, and more
Our first item on today’s edition of Mews and Nips is our very own Allegra! She was featured on Feline Yogi as their cat of the week, where she got a chance to spread word about her mission to rename one of the most widely recognized yoga poses in the world, referred to as Downward Facing Dog. Allegra feels pretty strongly that this asana was most definitely inspired by a feline and it’s time cats get proper credit for it! Read the full feature on Feline Yogini.
February is dental health month, and our friends over at A Tonk’s Tail…err, Tale ran an outstanding feature titled Straight Talk: Anesthesia and Your Pet and the questions YOU need to ask. Most cat guardians are anxious about anesthesia, but proper dental cleaning is simply not possible without it in pets. Lisa Richman interviewed her own veterinarian, and you’re going to want to read this piece before your pet undergoes anesthesia.
If you missed any of the stories featured on The Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: On Monday, I shared what I learned about caring for cats with cancer during a discussion with a veterinary oncologist, on Tuesday, we reviewed a new flavor enhancer for finicky felines, on Wednesday, we explored why cats are so fascinated with sinks, and on Friday, mystery cat author Clea Simon provided an exclusive report from the Copy Cat Festival in Sommerville, MA. And don’t forget to enter our giveaway for an innovative pet bowl!
The cat in today’s video cracked me up with his staying power in trying to get the elusive refrigerator door to open.
Have a great weekend!

Abracadabra – you will open!! Such a silly little kitty! Looks like a marbled Bengal!
Thank you for posting about Lisa Richman’s piece. I will have to check it out.
I’ve never seen a Bengal that color, Deb – he or she is beautiful.
“oooooh Mighty Food Holder, we beg of you to open up your riches to us!”
TOO funny!
and we completely agree with ALlegra – we’ve thought for some time that this pose was completely misnamed. We fully support her bid to properly name it Downward Facing Cat!
(Thanks for sharing about our post – we think it’s such important info for pet owners to know about.)
My pleasure – it’s a great post.
Open Sesame!
We agree with Allegra, we have never referred to a dog in this posture. Anyone seeing her would surely agree.
Bernadette, I think Downward Facing Dog is a thing of the past…
Allegra you’re such a superstar!
Diana,Lucy, and Rikki
Thanks, Diana, Lucy and Rikki. I’m honored that I get to be her humble servant.
