Mews and Nips: National Feral Cat Day

Tuesday was National Feral Cat Day, and the web was filled with great information and heartwarming stories about feral cats, ranging from Deb Barnes’ informative and comprehensive post titled “National Feral Cat Day: Making Sense of it All” to Kate Benjamin’s moving tribute to her formerly feral cat Theo titled “Remembering Theo on National Feral Cat Day” (that’s Theo in the photo above).

One of my favorite stories was Karen Nichol’s post about her formerly feral cat Tripper, titled “National Feral Cat Day: One Happy Ending.” That’s Tripper in the photo above. Does this look like a feral cat to you? When Tripper first showed up behind Karen’s house one winter seven years ago, she couldn’t come within 30 feet of him. “It took weeks to get him to come up to the back step for a meal — and then only if my silhouette could not be detected inside.” writes Karen. “His head was filled with exactly two reactions to everything: Food? or Yikes!” Read the full story of how this scared feral became the relaxed and happy cat pictured above on Mousebreath.com.

Hank-For-Senate

I don’t know about you, but I’m having a hard time keeping up with all of these cats running for office lately. We’ve previously reported about Hank, the Virginia cat running for a senate seat, and Stan, the tuxedo cat running for mayor in Halifax, Canada, as well as Stubbs, who is mayor of a small Alaska town. Catsparella’s Comprehensive Guide to Every Cat Running for Office helps you sort through the candidates and follow their campaigns. All it takes is one glance at their various platforms, and it quickly becomes apparent that they’ve got the human candidates running for office this fall beat paws down. Who couldn’t get behind animal rescue, spay/neuter programs, and a forever home for all homeless animals?

Allegra and Ruby are big fans of Moderncat toys, so when they saw me read about the new Puzzle Pieces Felt Toys, they wanted to know why I hadn’t gotten them any yet! Well, the reason I didn’t is because they’re only available for pre-order right now. The girls, who are no slouches when it comes to online shopping, quickly pointed out ot me that pre-ordering not only guarantees that they’ll get these toys as soon as they’re available, it will also save me lots of money, and shipping is free! How can I say no to those arguments? To pre-order these fabulous toys for your kitties, go to the Moderncat Presale Shop. The toys will ship in plenty of time for the holidays.

Today’s video of a very determined cat made me laugh. Does this scene happen at your house?

Have a great weekend!

  1. Thank you for mentioning my post for National Feral Cat – I was so overwhelmed (in a good way) with how many people who wrote such fantastic posts for the day. It gives me hope that maybe we can make a difference for these cats.

I loved the video and the quick appearances of the other cat!

  3. The video is so funny MOL!
I think Kitshka will soon be like that. She’s kind of doing this with a new toy already!

This was a good one. Really enjoyed the video

  5. Pam says:

Regarding the video, YES something similar to this does happen at my house! My cat is just determined to tear into dog kibble bags. I have to keep them behind closed doors at all times!

If by chance he does get at one, I have to lift him away hissing, spitting, yowling, and with claws and teeth flying! He is very determined when it comes to dog kibble, and many other foods in bags, such as pet treats or even bread!
