Mews and Nips: Cats Running for Office

Posted by Ingrid

 Tuxedo Stan running for mayor

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thinks the world would be better off with a cat in charge. Last week, Katie the cat won the Cat Ruler of the Word contest, and her first official act was to present Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary with a prize package worth $7500 to  help cats in need. There’s a cat in Alaska who is mayor of an entire town. Hank the cat is running for a senate seat in Virginia on a platform that intends to vote the humans out of office.

This growing trend of felines running for office has now spread across the border into Canada. The Huffington Post reports that Stan, a tuxedo cat from Halifax, is running for mayor. His campaign advocates for a city-sponsored spay, neuter and cat care program. Read the full story on The Huffington Post. Bob made the news for a completely different reason. The 14-month-old cat survived a 10 hour trip inside his guardian’s luggage on a trip to, ironically, visit the world’s most famous mouse. ABC News reports that Bob was discovered Monday afternoon inside the suitcase of his owner when the Ohio resident unpacked her bags at an Orlando, Fla., hotel near Disney World. Can you imagine her shock and surprise? Bob was pretty shaken by his unintended trip, but recovered after a few days. He spent the week in a crate in his guardian’s hotel room, and returned in a carrier near her seat on the flight home. Read the full story on ABC News.

Today’s video of a cat eating with a fork made me laugh out loud. Fake or not? You decide. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend!

The video is definitely fake, but cute nonetheless. :)

  2. I love the trend of using cat campaigning for positive change – the concept engages people, but also educates them at the same time.

  3. Looks like a lot of people are tired of the same old politics and finally – finally! – recognize we rule ;-)
