Happy Father’s Day: meet some special cat daddies

Thankfully, the stereotype that men don’t love cats is rapidly disappearing. I know we have quite a few male cat lovers among our readers. We think the sign of a good man is that he loves cats!

Today, in honor of Father’s Day, we’re featuring a few of these cat daddies.

Peter Wolf, pictured above with his formerly feral cat Smudge, is a freelance writer based in Phoenix, AZ. He writes about a wide variety of topics, but one topic that is closest to his heart is cats. He advocates for feral cats through his blog, Vox Felina. Peter’s vision is of a society in which all cats are adequately cared for. In addition to Smudge, Peter is dad to six other cats, and he also cares for two colonies of community cats of 3-6 cats each.

Al Chernoff is a member of Rescue Ink, an animal-rescue group dedicated to battling animal abuse and neglect, and educating and informing children and families about the mistreatment of animals. This group of tough-talking, tattooed bikers with hearts of gold uses their intimidating presence to shame and report animal abusers and rehabilitate distressed animals.

Al is pictured with Hope, who he rescued last year in the pouring rain from a parking lot, where people pushed her with their feet to get her to move.  “When I found her she weighed four pounds, had a bad kidney infection and very high blood sugar, and her front foot pads were melted off, “says Al. “Her doctor said she was an hour from death when I picked her up.” A year later, this senior cat has grown to a healthy eight pounds, bravely takes her insulin twice a day, and has become the house queen.

Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation cat adoption

Harry Shubin is a patent attorney in Northern Virginia, and volunteer coordinator for Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation. He shares his home with seven cats. His entire family, including his wife Julie, daughter Rachel, who is the publisher of the Sandpiper Cat Blog, and son Michael, is involved in cat rescue. As you can see from the photo above, which shows Harry at a cat adoption event, he will do just about anything to help cats find homes.

And of course, we can’t leave out the original Cat Daddy, Jackson Galaxy, who shares his life with four cats (and a dog). We previously profiled Jackson’s furry family members here on The Conscious Cat.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
